Springtime in Moscow

Just one of many banners around the city of Moscow that boldly declares, "Christ is Risen!"

My wonderful 5th graders on marble track construction race day. The kids spent about a week planning and building a track that met certain physics standards (areas of velocity, deceleration, changing acceleration but no decrease in speed). We timed each three-student team, and using the length of their track and time, they were able to calculate their average speed! What inspired such an activity? Well...about 13 years ago, Mr. Hays was in 5th grade and built his own "Marble Roller" at home. It still stands (or should I say "sticks"?) to this day...some of the tape is original!

Timing the students. Each time we had a successful run, the class would erupt in a cheer.

Part of the "Rent-A-Slave" Campaign, one student is giving up his recess time to grade 2nd grade papers. The 2nd grade teacher generously donated 100 rubles toward our cause (a little less than $4).

On Saturday, I spent some time in a park soaking up the sun and thoroughly enjoying springtime in Moscow. Below are some of the pictures I took.

My favorite scent of all flowers is most definitely lilac.
